Developed as part of the Master of Arts in Interior Architecture (MAIA) program at HEAD – Genève, this series of MA theses expands the field of interior architecture through critical investigations into the socio-political, ecological, and sensory dimensions of space. Engaging with themes such as protest, postcolonial modernity, sensory experience, planetary habitation, and material symbolism, the works reflect a growing interest in interiors as dynamic, performative sites of negotiation and transformation.
These theses articulate new relationships between bodies, objects, and environments—foregrounding questions of visibility, labor, ritual, and resistance. Corridors, thresholds, doors, and domestic atmospheres are re-examined not only as architectural elements but as spatial agents that mediate intimacy, identity, and collective belonging. Protest infrastructures, ceremonial practices, and ephemeral gastronomic events are explored as alternative typologies that challenge normative frameworks of use and function.
Informed by interdisciplinary methodologies, these projects respond to contemporary conditions through a redefinition of spatial practices. They propose renewed modes of engagement that foreground memory, materiality, and multisensory experience, situating interior architecture as a critical and responsive discipline capable of navigating the complexities of both terrestrial and extraterrestrial ecologies.
