HEAD won Solar Decathlon Challenge

The Swiss team and their solar house, the NeighborHub, won the prestigious Solar Decathlon 2017 competition in the Unites States. The Swiss Living Challenge and its multidisciplinary team – 4 schools, 250 students, 150 supervisors from the professional and academic sectors, and close to 50 sponsors – culminated with the highest award. This unique experience is not only an important victory, but also an unforgettable and educational human adventure.

As part of the International Solar Decathlon 2017 competition, the Swiss team developed the Swiss Living Challenge project and realized on a 1: 1 scale a prototype of a solar house called “NeighborHub”.

The aim of the Swiss Living Challenge project is to encourage the Swiss population to reduce their energy consumption and preserve the world’s natural resources. It proposes alternatives at several levels (energy, water and waste management, mobility, food, materials and biodiversity) that suggest that people take sustainable actions with technical equipment and structures.

The competition is based on 10 criteria: Architecture, Market potential, Engineering, Communication, Innovation, Health & comfort, Household appliances, Exploitation, Water management, Energy.
