Simon Husslein is a designer and principal of Studio Simon Husslein, a Zurich-based practice specialising in product and spatial design. He is also the co-founder of BEYOND.PLACE, a laboratory creating pioneering mixed-reality environments for spatial computing.
His practice encompasses furniture, watchmaking, interior architecture, scenography, and design consultancy. Born in Germany in 1976, he studied industrial design at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences and earned a master’s degree from the Royal College of Art in London. After working internationally and serving as Creative Director at Studio Hannes Wettstein from 2008 to 2014, he established his independent practice in Zurich in 2015. He has been Professor of Interior Architecture at HEAD – Genève since 2017.
His work combines technical expertise and experimentation with a precise, coherent approach to form, colour, and structure. He has received numerous international distinctions, including two Red Dot Design Awards: Best of the Best, an iF Gold Award, a German Design Award in Gold, and the Watch of the Year prize. He has served on the Red Dot Design Award jury since 2017 and has been a member of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève Academy since 2021.
